The Associate Software Engineer will be responsible for a key application from the back-end to the customer. The application is cloud based, multi-continent. You will respond to level 2 calls providing expertise to solve customer problems from configuration to bug fixes. You will use your coding, design, production release skills to prioritize issues, define requirements then code, and test/implement solutions. You will work directly with one of the founders of the company as well as other brilliant people.  This position could move into a more advanced development and architecture design while participating in building world class Learning Management Systems.

What You'll Do Here:


  • Test-drives awesome code, working closely with other Agile team members
  • Gets things done. Takes ownership of tasks. Helps drive the completion of all kinds of work tasks
  • Deliver solutions using Java, HTML and SQL coding skills and product knowledge
  • Learn how products work, identify the root cause of problems and deliver complete solutions
  • Develop solutions to technical problems that ensure a stable product environment
  • Make sound decisions based on customer needs, SLA's and product knowledge
  • Consistently follows software development methodology
  • Commits to completing well-defined work, and delivers on those commitments
  • Continuously acts to enhance knowledge of new technologies, business processes, and project management skills, staying abreast of trends, latest industry developments and knowledge sharing among colleagues
  • Respond to incident tickets and outage notifications (the system is very stable)
  • Support production systems in a 24/7 environment

Skills You Will Need Here:



  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Engineering and recent, relevant work experience
  • Minimum 3 years software development experience including 1 year of Java programming experience
  • Experience with customer facing problem solving and solution delivery
  • Knowledge of and desire to work in an Agile development environment
  • Thorough understanding of and experience in object oriented design and programming
  • Familiarity with wide portfolio of software development applications, environments and languages
  • Experience using source code control systems, such as Git, Subversion, or CVS
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills required
  • Creative problem solving skills and ability to effectively communicate and translate feedback, needs and solutions
  • Must have strong teamwork orientation and the ability to foster collaboration within and across teams
  • Must be sensitive to cultural differences in interactions and in the way work is done
  • Needs good work ethic and strong sense of ownership of result


  • Experience with Agile development methodologies
  • Experience with creating reports from a SQL Database System
  • Passion for working in the academic, professional or library markets, and experience with technologies within those markets such as LMS
